Treasure Hunt Package

Bring your kids and stay in one of our  Family rooms with 2 King size beds. There are cribs and rollaway beds also available for these large rooms. Treasure Hunt in the room for chocolate gold coins. View our Video on the Treasure of the Steamboat Arabia. Then take the short drive to the Steamboat Arabia to learn about and see 200 tons of treasure that was aboard when it sank in 1856. The Steamboat Arabia is one of our best local attractions.

About Animals Package

Package includes a night in one of our family rooms and admission to the Kansas City Zoo.  Our family rooms are quite large and have 2 King size beds and a sitting area.  They are big enough for rollaways and cribs to be added , if necessary. The rooms can sleep up to 6, in addition to infants.

    Also included is a movie and popcorn in our lounge. We have several family movies to choose from and the lounge is very comfy with a large leather sofa and an HD Television with Blu-Ray player. You can order in from our delivery menu that includes burgers, pizza and gourmet dinners.

PACKAGE PRICE:

• $ 40.00 per adult, 16 and older.
• $ 25.00 per child.
• Children under 2 are free.

NICE TO ADD:

• #1. Dinner on the Square at one of the several nice restaurants. The Independence Square is walking distance from the Hotel.

Time Travel Package

Go back in time to the late 1800’s in Independence, Missouri. Visit the Vaile
Mansion and the Bingham-Waggoner Estate. See how the wealthy lived during that era.

Then visit the National Frontier Trails Museum and learn about the hearty folks that traveled from Independence in covered wagons to points west. Independence is the head of the California, the Santa Fe and The Oregon Trails. There are still wagon ruts in the field directly across the street from the Museum. Independence is known as “The Queen City of the Trails.”

Top off your stay in Independence with a 35-minute ride around the city in a Covered Wagon.  A tour guide will point out points of interest and tell stories of days gone by.

The Harry S. Truman Package

Visit the home of the 33^rd President of the United States of America and get a glimpse of his personal life. The Truman Home is directly across the street from Higher Ground Hotel. The National Park Service Visitor Center on the Independence Square will show you a short video on Harry Truman’s life before touring the home.

After the home tour, take the walking tour of the beautiful Victorian Homes in the neighborhood where he and his friends lived. Harry took this walk every day, as long as he was able.

Then travel the less than a mile from the hotel to the Truman Presidential Museum and Library which is full of information about his Presidency, World War Two, and the Korean War.

Next, take a short walk to the Jackson County Courthouse where Harry Truman served as a Judge.

Back at the Hotel, enjoy a video on the life of Harry Truman in one of our lounges. We supply the popcorn!

Stay at Higher Ground Hotel and visit Worlds of Fun amusement park or its sister water park, Oceans of Fun. Worlds of Fun and Oceans of Fun have an array of fun rides and other activities. Spend the day enjoying everything the park has to offer. Price includes a stay in one of our King Rooms or if you are bringing along children, one of our spacious Family Rooms.Continental breakfast buffet is included in the package.

Picnic in the Woods
“A Nature Lover’s Experience”

Enjoy a day at George Owens Nature Park, a short 5.4 miles from the Hotel. Go Birding with binoculars and a camera. Identify wildflowers and capture them forever on film. Have a picnic provided by the hotel at the Lakeside Picnic Pavilion. 

You can even do a little fishing, if you like. There are two stocked fishing lakes. The Park has 86.5 acres of trails in a beautiful woodland setting.

Wanted: Dead or Alive

Explore the 1859 Jail Museum. Hear the stories of the famous to the infamous
Outlaws like Jesse and Frank James and William Clarke Quantrill. See what Justice was like during that era. Learn the fate of the notorious James Gang. Jessie and Frank James were locals to this area of Missouri.

Learn about the dungeon-like cells that housed thousands of prisoners during the bloodiest time in Jackson County’s History.

Walk around the Jackson County Courthouse and read more about the local Civil War History on its Monuments.  Visit the Archives in the historic courthouse to learn more about this era in local history.

Visit the 1827 Log Courthouse, the seat of Justice for this region in the early 1800’s.

If you wish, pay respects at Frank James' tombstone in the nearby Hill Park Cemetery.

Return to the Hotel to watch a movie in one of our lounges about Jessie James or Quantrill or both. We supply the popcorn!

Getting Jazzed

Enjoy an evening of live jazz in the Power and Light District of Kansas City. Spend the night in Historic Downtown Independence in a beautiful, romantic Victorian neighborhood at Higher Ground Hotel. Enjoy a starlit skylight room or a room overlooking Harry Truman's Classic Victorian Home. Take a taxi to and from the downtown club of your choice, have dinner in one of the famous eating establishments in the Power and Light District and then just call the driver for a ride back when you have had enough fun!

INCLUDED IN PACKAGE:

An overnight stay at the hotel for two, a taxi downtown (15 minute ride) and back, and our continental breakfast buffet. We can give you information as to "who is playing where" downtown upon your arrival at the hotel.

OPTIONAL ACTIVITIES:

Visit the American Jazz Museum while downtown. They have live jazz every night except Sunday, starting at 7:00 PM. The next morning schedule a massage from one of our Certified Therapist at $ 60.00 an hour.

Girls Night Out!!

Rendezvous at Higher Ground Hotel in one of our double King of Queen rooms with a large seating area. Perfect for long conversations and soul searching. After arrival, tour the two beautiful Victorian Mansions we have in Independence. Imagine what it would have been like
to run a household like this during the 1800's. Return to Higher Ground for an afternoon High Tea and enjoy some of our special cupcakes along with some good English tea. Then go to downtown Independence (a short walk away) and have a light supper at Cafe Verona in the balcony. A wonderful day for friends to share together!
